Why does Rihanna spray tan?
It's a myth that tanning is only for peachy pale-faced girls. Spray tanning can have huge benefits for those with darker skin too.
When Rihanna revealed in 2014 that she spends £30k a week on her beauty regime, the dropped jaws weren't just because of the price tag. Many people wondered why spray tanning gurus featured among her team of beauty experts. The simple answer is that it can be just as hard to make darker skin look fresh, healthy and glowing as it can for light skin, and the benefits of a spray tan are just as revolutionary.
Blending in
One thing a spray tan does for darker skin is even out the tone. Whether you've got paler patches on your face, or strap lines from that South of France trip that just won't fade away, a spray tan can smooth them over, 'airbrushing' out blemishes you might otherwise spend time concealing with clothes or make up.
Golden glow
Looking healthy is a key reason why people of all skin tones spray tan. If you've got darker skin, you can use a bronzing tan solution that emphasises your natural tone and evens out 'ashy' or dull skin, giving you a natural-looking glow without exposing yourself to the ageing and drying effects of sunlight.
Moisturising
Most spray tan solutions don't just make dry skin look healthy, they actually contain deep moisturising agents to help recondition your skin deep within the dermal layers. Choosing a product with natural ingredients is essential as parabens, a commonly-used chemical preservative, are known hormone disruptors that can have an overall negative effect on your health.
Highlighting
A source close to Rihanna admitted the spray tan wasn't just for a more even and warmer skin tone. "She gets her thighs contoured using the airbrush tanning and he's also an expert on highlighting her abs too," the source told The Mirror. Using spray tan to help emphasise muscle tone is a neat trick the body-building guys caught onto decades ago - don't go overboard though.
Remember, you still need to cover your elbows, knees, soles of your feet and palms of your hands with a moisture barrier to prevent them taking on too much of the tanning colour. Also, don't go too dark. You've got great colour already, the aim is to make it glow! Contact us at My Tan London for more tips and advice.
