Spray tanning for redheads
Summer's here! If you're not planning on heading anywhere a little hotter this summer, you may be thinking about topping up your tan the manual way. Spray tan has become the UK's favourite way to build up some colour in the warmer months and even in the winter too! But we know that some of you may have reservations about whether a tan would even suit you.
Redheads are famed for their lovely red locks and naturally pale skin. Notorious for burning in the sun before tanning, building and maintaining a tan can be really difficult for those with fair skin. Instead of hiding in the shade all summer, why not embrace the glow of a bronzed goddess?
If you're a redhead, you may have assumed that spray tanning isn't for you, but did you know that you can get a lovely natural tone that complements your red hair without giving yourself an unnatural look? We've all seen the pictures of girls left with a fake orange effect after a spray tan - your spray tan should never be orange or give off any unpleasant smells! With a high-quality tanning solution, you're able to achieve a natural looking glow that doesn't leave your skin with an unflattering red tone.
When you're choosing your tanning solution, you should look for one that has a low DHA content. Solutions of around 8% are perfect as they leave you not only with a subtle glow but a subtle fade process too. To guarantee an even coverage, you can use a tanning machine, or to have extra control over just how much you're applying (we understand that redheads are probably the most nervous to apply tanning solution!), you could use a self-tanning mitt.
One of our most important tips for first-time tanners, redhead or not, is to not panic when you see the colour of the tanning solution! Once you've had time to bake and wash off the excess, you'll be left with the perfect subtle tone you're looking for.
Redheads should remember that while they may have a gorgeous healthy glow from My Tan London, spray tans don't protect you from the sun, so make sure to wear an SPF this summer too!
