How to properly prep before spray tanning
We all have bad tan days. Streaky, clumpy tan can make you feel self-conscious when on a date or when out dancing with your friends. The best way to get a flawless, even tan is to prepare the skin before spraying. Try doing these 3 things before you reach for the spray tan bottle.
Equipment
Orange hands are no-one’s friend and can ruin your natural-looking glow. Investing in a good quality tanning mitt is key to getting an even tan and it protects your hands. The large surface area of the mitt allows for quicker application and it can get to those hard to reach areas. Use in a circular motion to avoid streaks.
Exfoliate
This is often a step that is missed when applying fake tan at home. Dead skin cells can lie on the body for 60-90 days causing dryness and flaky skin. Get rid of that excess skin and prolong the life of your fake tan by using a mild exfoliating scrub in the shower 24 hours before you start spray tanning. You may have spray tan solution for sensitive skin therefore you should choose an exfoliating product suitable for your skin type in case of irritation.
Don’t neglect your face
Many people are so focused on the body that the face becomes an afterthought. When spray tanning at home, it is a good idea to start with the face as this will show you how much to apply to other areas of the body to achieve an even tone. Before you start applying any tanning product on the face, you should remove all makeup thoroughly, preferably with a face wash or cleansing wipe. At home, you may even have time to apply a facial exfoliating wash before spray tanning.
One piece of spray tanning advice you shouldn’t forget when preparing your skin is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. A good moisturiser will help the skin stay hydrated after exfoliation, resulting in a more even tan. Grab your spray tan kit and prepare thoroughly for a beautiful, streak-free glow.
