Self-tanning at home can be a nightmare if you don't have all of the essentials to hand. Being prepared will not only save you time but it can help you to achieve the flawless tan that you are looking for.

1) Exfoliate and moisturise early

To achieve your sun-kissed look, you will firstly need to exfoliate and moisturise the skin 24 hours before tanning. Without doing so, the tan may cling to dry areas leading to steaks and patchiness - which everyone wants to avoid! Invest in a good body scrub and moisturiser to fully prep your skin; selecting one suitable for your skin type.

2) Find a clear, open space to tan in

This doesn't mean that you have to set up your tanning station outside in your garden, although it would certainly give the neighbours a view! Just make sure that you are not in a tight, confined space where the spray tan can hit the floor and walls. Nobody wants to re-decorate after every session!

3) You can't self-tan without a spray tanning kit

Pick yourself up an Aura Allure spray tanning machine or one of our starter kits to begin your tanning journey. Our starter kits are complete with bottles of our spray tan solution; each solution is paraben-free, as we believe the better the ingredients, the better the tan. A tan should look natural and gorgeous, never orange or smelly!

4) Wear gloves

Wearing gloves whilst spray tanning will stop your hands from racking up too many layers as you tan the rest of your body. Once the rest of your body is complete, remove the gloves and begin applying the tan lightly over them. Avoid washing them shortly after, as you may inadvertently wash off the tan and end up with sleeves.

5) Protect against spills

It helps to keep old towels or cleaning products to hand, just in case there are any spillages or accidental slips with the spraying machine. Of course, the tent will minimise the spread of tan around the room, but it is better to be safe than sorry!
